Giving Back to the Community
Red Hook Pier
As part of a Basis Independent Brooklyn volunteer initiative, I joined a team that partnered with Red Hook PortSide, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Brooklyn’s maritime history. Together, we helped clean and organize the pier area, prepared the historic ship, and even dismantled a large shark float from a previous exhibit. It was a rewarding experience that combined hands-on work with learning about the effort it takes to protect and maintain New York’s waterfront heritage.
