FOLDS is a nonprofit organization that combines creativity and compassion by using origami as both a therapeutic and artistic form of enrichment for older adults.
Founded with the belief that art can heal and connect, FOLDS brings origami workshops to senior centers and assisted living facilities. Each session encourages participants to stay mentally engaged and physically active while expressing creativity through folding paper. Beyond the art itself, these classes give seniors an opportunity to share their life stories, fostering conversation, joy, and community. Currently operating in one facility and expanding to two more, FOLDS continues to grow as a space where creativity and care intersect.
As Founder and CEO, I created FOLDS to help seniors use origami as a gentle exercise for both the mind and hands. The sessions are designed to improve dexterity, focus, and emotional well-being while encouraging meaningful connection.
I developed the workshop structure, secured partnerships with local senior centers, and personally led classes to introduce origami as a form of creative therapy. Each session balances relaxation with engagement, helping residents feel confident and fulfilled.
I’ve worked to grow FOLDS’ presence and reach new communities. The goal is to make art-driven care accessible to more seniors while showing how creativity can promote both physical and emotional health.
Through regular sessions, I’ve seen seniors grow more confident and socially engaged, forming new friendships while rediscovering joy in creative expression. These outcomes have reinforced the importance of combining art, empathy, and movement in every class.
