Journey Back in Time is a student-founded organization dedicated to connecting people through history, culture, and identity by hosting collaborative workshops and research projects.
Founded in 2022, Journey Back in Time began as a project focused on transcribing Civil War documents for historical research in collaboration with institutions like the Smithsonian. As the club expanded, its mission grew to explore the histories of diverse cultures and identities within the school community. Through debates, presentations, and cultural workshops, the organization encouraged open discussion and appreciation of different backgrounds, fostering inclusivity across ethnic, gender, and social lines.
As Founder and Vice President, I helped establish the club’s structure and goals, guiding its transformation from a research initiative into a platform for cultural understanding. I oversaw partnerships, developed event formats, and ensured the organization’s activities reflected its inclusive purpose.
I co-organized debates, presentations, and workshops that brought together students of varied ethnicities and identities, from Central Asian to African, European, and beyond. We later expanded to include discussions on gender identity and the history of the LGBTQ+ community, helping build stronger bonds within our school.
I led our partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, where we transcribed archival Civil War documents for use in historical research. This collaboration gave students the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to academic projects while deepening their understanding of historical preservation and context.
